We hope you join us as we celebrate The Art Of Giving with the most exciting event of 2017!
Enjoy this exclusive opportunity — Lunch at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort with The Eighth Countess of Carnarvon who lives with her family at Highclere Castle, the setting for Downton Abbey — the popular TV series watched worldwide for the past six years. Our special guest, David Prodger, Her Majesty’s Consul General will introduce Lady Carnarvon as well as host a Q&A session.
Lady Fiona Carnarvon is the oldest of 6 sisters. She married her husband in 1999 and, following the death of his father in 2001, they became the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and Highclere Castle is their home. The couple have one son.
The castle has provided the inspiration and setting for Downton Abbey, written by their friend, Julian Fellowes. Following the huge popularity of the series, Lady Carnarvon began to write books about the history of the family and Highclere Castle. Her first book, Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey (a NY Times #1 Bestseller) tells the story of her husband’s great-grandmother on whom the character Lady Cora is loosely based.
Lady Carnarvon will share personal stories and anecdotes during her presentation: Highclere Castle: Home Of Downton Abbey — A Worldwide Legend, highlighting the castle’s art and antiquities, the gardens designed by Capability Brown, and memorable occasions entertaining royalty and other distinguished guests through the centuries. She will also talk about the 5th Earl’s participation in the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen and the collection of original artifacts on display at the castle. And, of course, she will regale us with tales about the filming of Downton Abbey at Highclere Castle.
Signed copies of Lady Carnarvon’s books will be available for purchase and a selection of items from the Highclere Castle Gift Shop will be included in our silent auction items.
